Halo, I want to talk about HTTP (HIMTI Togetherness and Top Performance) 2015 with the theme is SHINE, which was held last Saturday on 12 September 2015 at the BPPT II M.H. Thamrin Street, Central Jakarta. HTTP is an event held by HIMTI and is devoted to new students majoring in SOCS (School of Computer Science) like TI, MAT, GAT, CS, TI-MATH, and TI-STAT, so this HTTP event is almost like a new student gathering. Well, this HTTP event is not just a gathering. By joining HTTP we can get PBC (Pengenalan Bahasa C) classes, by taking this PBC class, we will understand more about the basics of introducing the C language, so later when lectures start, we will not be too surprised with the material the lecturer gave. We also get the HIMTI DVD kit, the HIMTI DVD kit contains software, tutorials, and materials during lectures, so the DVD is very useful for self-study. We also get an exclusive HIMTI pin, which can indicate that we are part of HIMTI and that can only be obtained if we participate in HTTP events. There is much other merchandise if we participate in the event, and the most important thing is that if we participate in this HTTP event, we can get an e-certificate which can be exchanged for SAT points, is very profitable, right? 😉

So now I will tell you how HTTP 2015 event took place. The HTTP event also provides a shuttle bus for us to go to the event, so we don’t need to be confused about what to get on to the event, they will even take us back. The shuttle bus will wait in front of the BINUS Anggrek admission. Because I was on Kemanggisan campus, not at Alam Sutera, so I took the shuttle bus that was in Kemanggisan. The Kemanggisan shuttle bus is divided into 2 shifts, the first shift at 6.30 AM and the second shift at 7.45 AM. I chose the second shift. I arrived in front of the BINUS Anggrek admission at around 7.00 AM. When I got there, it turned out that the first shuttle bus was not going yet because there were still many empty seats. A senior woman from the HTTP event committee offered me to take the first shift shuttle bus, but I didn’t want it because I was still waiting for my friend to come, so I took the second shuttle bus. Not too long to wait, my friend finally arrived, and the second shuttle bus also arrived around 7.15 am. Finally, I got on the second bus.

After arriving at the BPPT building, we were shown the work of SOCS students, such as the results of mobile applications made, games, and it’s cool. Then, after seeing the applications showcase, we entered the auditorium while waiting for the other students, because the event started at 9 AM, and we were shown a film. After 9 AM, the event had finally started. The first event was remarks from the head of HIMTI, the head of the department program, and lecturers. Then there was a game that was delivered by a fun presenter. After that, we were given lunch and given time for break time. After conducting the break time, the next event was a talk show with guest stars from BINUS University students who had become successful technopreneurs. Then there was a visualization, namely a drama depicting the first year at BINUS University and HIMTI. After that, there was a band performance and a cool dance.

The conclusion of this HTTP event is very awesome, and I can make new connections with 1 of my faculty, 1 batch, and can also connect with SOCS level seniors and the committee or HIMTI activists. It is highly recommended for new SOCS students to attend the HTTP event in the next year because it has so many benefits.

Hi, let me introduce myself. I’m Nurina Laraswati, a Binusian 2019 student focusing on Mobile Apps and Technology. Being a Binusian 2019 means I’m aiming to graduate in 2019, aamiin. Binusian refers to all students, instructors, employees, and core members of BINUS University. Today, I’ll share my experience at the BINUS University student orientation. At BINUS, orientation is called FEP (Freshmen Enrichment Programs). What I experienced during FEP was quite different from what I expected or feared. FEP at BINUS was actually a lot of fun. There was no hazing, teasing, or seniority issues, and everyone dressed normally (white shirt + black pants). I wasn’t assigned any unique tasks like I was in junior and senior high school. FEP at BINUS University is divided into three categories: General Orientation (GO), Academic Orientation (AO), and Campus Life Orientation (CLO), but this time I’ll only talk about the General Orientation and Academic Orientation sessions that I attended.

– General Orientation
This General Orientation lasts for a week. During this time, we learn about the BINUS University environment, how to register for classes, university regulations, and student organizations. Throughout FEP GO, we’re guided by seniors called Buddy Coordinators (BC), and we, the new students, are called Buddies. During our GO, we’re divided into different batches. These batches are determined by the registration wave. Since I registered in the first wave, my GO was in the ABN batch, specifically the ABN 16 class. In ABN 16, students are grouped into three majors: Mobile Apps and Technology, Game Apps and Technology, and Cybersecurity. In my class, ABN 16, I learned how to socialize with friends from various ethnicities, religions, and races, as many of them come from outside Jabodetabek.

-Academic Orientation (AO)
Academic Orientation is held two weeks before to lectures. Because this AO included the courses of all batches, I gained more new acquaintances at AO. I also learn about my major curriculum, study skills, fundamental departmental courses, and get to know the lecturer/academic adviser. In my view, it is advisable to follow all of them throughout this FEP, whether GO, AO, or CLO, since if we are present and never absent during the FEP, we will receive 100 SAT points, so we only need to add 20 more points to meet the requirements to pass. And other benefits that we will get if we follow this FEP well, we can easily get the opportunity to become a mentor, Buddy Coordinator (BC), English tutor, board member of student organizations, and the opportunity to also get BINUS University scholarships, etc.

-Organization Skills
There are three types of student organizations at BINUS University. There are three organizations: Himpunan Mahasiswa Jurusan (HMJ),  Unit Kegiatan Mahasiswa (UKM), and the Community. Joining that organization, especially if we can become activists, may provide us with six critical soft skills, beginning with self-management, initiative and entrepreneurship, teamwork, problem-solving, communication, planning and organizing. These six important soft skills are in high demand in the workplace, thus it is encouraged for Binusian to have six key soft skills by following the organization.

The point is that BINUS University’s orientation is far from “negative”. There is no bullying, rambling, seniority, or other scary things. As long as this FEP is going on, I’m having a fun time, starting with the seniors who are nice and friendly, making new friends from various religions, regions, and races, and I’m also grateful to be a student at BINUS University, because BINUS provides and encourages students to be successful in the future, not just in college but also in the global future.
